The International Society for Subterranean Biology is a scientific association

Founded in January of 1979 under the name Société de Biospéologie, as one of the most representative French Scientific Societies concerned by karst areas, caves and subterranean habitats. During 1980-2000 it evolved towards an International Scientific Society and since 2000 it is under the name of Société Internationale de Biospéologie – International Society for Subterranean Biology.

The main objectives are the promotion of scientific research in biology and ecology of subterranean systems, contributing to the education and spreading of scientific knowledge related to karst ecosystems, intersitial habitats and MSS, and contributing to the conservation and management of subterranean habitats and their biodiversity.
